Watch How to setup a streaming music computer/server Video How to setup a streaming music computer/server
May 18, 2012
Alright guys,I put together a tutorial on to setup a computer that your able to stream music from(kinda like YouTube videos).I had to cut some of the intro off and a bit of the end to keep it under 11 minutes. Also, the intro SHOULD have video but YouTube no longer accepts/works with .MOV. Basically, you need a decent PC,nothing fancy.Something around $50-$100 off craigslist.org should do fine. The specs of the computer I used was a Intel Celeron 1.7 GHz processor 512 MB DDR RAM and a 100 GB PATA Maxtor Hardrive. So something around that or better shouldn't be hard to find. This program works on just about any operating system(Windows,Linux, and Mac). The program is called Sockso. It's free and open source(which means you can modify the source code of the program itself if you want to fit your needs if your capable of doing so). sockso.pu-gh.com The program itself is executable, which means there is no installation. You just do what I did in the video and it runs. The only other thing is forwarding ports.By default,Sockso uses port 4444.You need to find your default gateway address(For Windows XP do the following Start|Control Panel|Network Places|Click on the Support Tab then you will see your default gateway address)Windows Vista/7 are somewhat different but you go to similar places in control panel to find it(believe it's called Network and Sharing Center or something). Then type that address into a web browser.REMEMBER,it's not the IP ADDRESS! It's the DEFAULT GATEWAY ADDRESS ...

May 18, 2012
This tutorial demonstrates how to configure a network connection in Linux (Backtrack specifically). Normally a network connection can be automatically established and configured but in some situations this isn't the case. In such instances, an IP, Gateway, Subnet Mask, and DNS must be assigned the the network adapter. This tutorial will also show how to configure a wireless adapter to connect to a desired network. - Commands Used: ifconfig (Shows a listing of recognized network interfaces on the system) sudo ifconfig [INTERFACE] up (Enables the specified network interface) sudo ifconfig [INTERFACE] [IP ADDRESS] netmask [SUBNET MASK] (Assigns an IP Address to the network interface. A LAN IP should begin with 192.168.xxx.xxx [EX: 192.168.0.112]. Netmask will assign a subnet mask to the interface as well which is normally 255.255.255.0) sudo iwconfig [INTERFACE] mode managed (Sets the interface to managed mode) sudo iwconfig [INTERFACE] essid [NAME OF NETWORK] key [ENCRYPTION KEY] (Connects you to the specified secure network) sudo route add default gateway [GATEWAY IP ADDRESS] (Assigns the default gateway to the interface. This will be the IP Address of your router which varies from model to model. Most will be either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1) sudo sh -c "echo nameserver [DNS IP] [GREATER THAN SYMBOL] /etc/resolv.conf" (This writes the DNS IP to your resolv.conf file. This is needed to resolve domain names to IP addresses. Your DNS will either be assigned by your ISP ...
